what is the best free "web making" site?

i want to be able to use HTML & have maximum control. what are the best FREE site to create my own blog/website?

I would recommend Freehostia.com. You can upload and publish your HTML files for free. They provide 250MB disk space, which should be more than enough for any general purpose website.

While signing up make sure to choose "Use subdomain" if you do not want to pay for the domain name -your website address will be something like mysite.freehostia.com.

Once you sign up you can upload your files -or if you want you can easily install one of the available free open source software through the admin panel -Word Press is a great blogging tool.
